Winter season approaches and our lips start getting dry and chapped. Well, winter season is not the only cause of dry lips there are many other reasons which causes the lips to dry. 1. Use of good lip balm-

Lip balms are a saviour, they help to lock the moisture in the lips and keep it soft and smooth. You can enjoy the lip balm of any flavour and aroma but it is better to stay away from the lip balm containing the following ingredients-

Menthol

Camphor

Phenol

Lip balm makes sure that your lips are not chapped and dry. They help to nourish and hydrate the lips and also maintain its natural colour.

2. DIY lip scrub-

You can also use a lip scrub to keep the dead skin away from the lips. We have brought some of the DIY lip scrubs which will help to treat the dry and chapped lips-

  • Aloe Vera: – Aloe Vera is filled with vitamins, antioxidants, and minerals all these nutrients help to treat the dryness of the lips. The gel of the aloe vera makes lips soft and smooth. It also rehydrates the damaged lips and keeps them nourished.

How to use:

  • Take a little of aloe vera gel
  • Rub it on your chapped and dry lips
  • Let it stay for 5 minutes
  • Wash it off with normal water
  • Apply lip balm after that.
  • Coconut Oil: We all know how amazing oil coconut is. It is light in weight, helps to fight inflammation and acts as an emollient. Coconut oil gets absorbed in the lips very fastly and makes it soft and smooth.
  • Vitamin E: Vitamin E is a natural conditioner and is rich in antioxidants. It helps to treat the dry and chapped lips and make it soft and smooth. Honey is rich in anti-microbial properties and helps to hydrate and moisturize the lips.

Vitamin E Lip Scrub:

  • You need 1 tbsp. of Honey
  • Mix 1 tsp. of Olive oil
  • 1 Vitamin E capsule
  • And 1 tbsp. of Brown sugar
  • Mix them together and your lip scrub is ready
  • Apply it on your lips and rub it
  • Let it stay for 5 minutes
  • Rinse it with lukewarm water.
  • Shea butter scrub: Shea butter is rich in vitamin A and E, it helps to moisturize and hydrate the lips. It soothes the chapped lips and also remove the dryness of the lips. The sugar in this scrub helps to exfoliate the lips and keep it soft and smooth.

Shea butter Lip Scrub:

  • Take 1 tbsp. of shea butter
  • Mix 1 tbsp. of sugar in it
  • Mix them well, to form a lip scrub
  • Apply the scrub on your lips and rub it
  • Wash it off with lukewarm water

3. Exfoliate the lips-

Chapped and dry lips are the signs of dead skin cells. The layer of dead skin cells prevents the healing ingredients to reach the lips and cure them. It is necessary to exfoliate the lips, in order to remove the dead skin cells. You can use any of the above lip scrubs to exfoliate the lips.

4. Keep yourself hydrated-

Dehydration is the main culprit when it comes to chapped and dry lips. It is necessary to keep your body hydrated. Hydration helps to flush out the toxins from the body and keep it clean and clear. When your body needs water or it is dehydrated, it pulls water from skin cells to keep your body hydrated.

5. Avoid smoking-

It is truly said that smoking is injurious to health. Smoking not only affects your health, but it also dries the lips and skin. It dries the lips and causes a crack in it. Smoking is also the reason for mouth ulcers and gum pain.

6. Use a Humidifier-

During winter the skin is dry, it rips out the natural oil and moisture from the lips and makes it dry and chapped. Drinking plenty of water hydrate, the lips and also keep them clean and clear. And a humidifier helps to add moisture in the dry winds.

  • Do not use flavoured lip balm

  • Quit smoking
