We all saw Bhumi Pednekar in Dum Laga Ke Haisha’s movie and then later when we saw her again in a movie, she was just unrecognizable. Yes, Bhumi Pednekar’s weight loss journey is just amazing and inspiring. She managed to lose around 32 kgs in just 4 months. #LoseitLikeBhumi became trending. When she came on stage to grab her Filmfare Award for Best Female Debut in 2016, everyone was stunned by her slimmer and toned body.

Bhumi pednekar weight loss diet plan became the topmost search. The main surprise element in this weight loss was, she didn’t go to any dietician or nutritionist to lose her weight. So, how did she manage to go from 89kgs to 57kgs in just 4 months? Let’s check out Bhumi’s weight loss plan and her workout regime-         

Her weight loss in her Words

Don’t push yourself into a zone where you set unachievable targets for yourself. I was able to lose weight in a happy state of mind because I would not starve myself. “Food makes me happy. It’s for the soul,” she admits. I’ve never deprived myself of eating anything I’ve wanted. I had ghee, butter, buttermilk and the only thing I stopped having completely was sugar. But yes, I controlled my carbohydrate intake too. I followed my regular diet, exercised portion control, and was very particular about not bingeing. I had a cheat meal every five days.
The actress adds, “It sounds fancy but I never went to a dietician or a nutritionist. Till now, it has only been my mother and me. I used Google search and my mother’s vast knowledge of food to lose weight. Apart from being physically active, a simple home-cooked meal is the most effective way for weight loss. The two of us came up with a diet plan.”

Bhumi Pednekar Weight Loss Diet Plan

Breakfast

Detox Water Recipe-

Take 1-litre water

Add 3 cucumbers, fresh mint leaves and 4 lemons in it.

Keep it in the refrigerator for few hours.

Your detox water is ready.

  • After 30 mins. She would eat Museli with skimmed milk and flax or sunflower seeds.
  • One before hitting the gym- Whole wheat with 2 egg omelets and fruit (either papaya or apple.
  • After gym- 5 boiled egg whites.

Lunch

After having this healthy breakfast. Now is the time for Lunch. Her lunch consists of-

2 Multigrain roti (not made of wheat) with butter + Dal tadka+ Vegetable made in Olive oil + Chaach or Bowl of curd.

Eating the same food daily becomes boring. So, other than the above combination, she used to have some different options like-

  • Grilled chicken with Brown bread and Veggies.
  • Soya nuggets.
  • Homemade chicken curry and brown rice.
  • Hummus with carrot and cucumber.
  • Grilled chicken sandwich with hummus, green chutney and honey mustard.

Evening Snack

Well, who doesn’t love afternoon snacks? And keeping yourself hungry at that time is not a good idea. So, bhumi’s evening was also filled with good choice snacks options-

  • Around 4:30pm- Half Papaya or Apple or Pear or Guava.
  • At around 5:30pm- Green tea with almond or walnuts.
  • 7pm- A bowl full of salad. Bhumi used to add some dried berries or walnuts too sometimes. For her salad dressing, she uses olive oil or ACV or Balsamic vinegar.          

The above snack keeps her fill for her dinner.

Dinner

Many people skip dinner in order to lose weight, but not Bhumi. She just changed her food choice to healthy with low carbs and calories.

Her key rule here is: To eat or consume fewer carbs at night, as digestion slows down at night.

At 8:30pm

  • Non-Veg Option- Grilled Fish or Chicken.
  • Veg Option- Fresh, Pan-fried Paneer/Tofu, Stir-fried veggies, or Steamed vegetables with a cup of Brown rice. Sometimes, multi-grain roti too.        

Healthy Snacks she munched on

Even though Bhumi’s main priority was to lose weight, she had a thing for food. Even she used to crave food, but she turned her cravings into healthy options. Let’s see how-

berry smoothie

  • For craving, something salty, crunchy, crispy, or sweet- She used to go for a simple berry smoothie.

How to make Berry Smoothie-

  • Take a glass of water.
  • Add 2 tbsp. of yogurt in it.
  • One tsp. of honey
  • And some fresh berries.
  • Grind them together and enjoy your berry smoothie.

For craving of eating just some snacks, you can choose following options-

  • Kale Chips
  • Soya Chips
  • Hummus
  • Dark Chocolate
  • Dry roasted grains like Bajra

Her Sugar Alternative

The one thing which the actress did was to stay away from the Sugar intake. Yes, she completely quit the use of sugar.

Bhumi says,” Quitting or rather reducing the intake of refined sugar was one the best decisions of my life. Refined sugar – brown or white – is nothing but the taste and empty calories. In fact, in the process to digest it, it empties your body of a lot of vitamins and minerals.”

But being a sweet tooth, she found some alternative for sugar-

  • Raw Honey- It is also good for digestion and is loaded with calcium, vitamin B6, zinc and potassium.
  • Stevia- It is extracted from plants and tastes the same as sugar. Stevia has zero calories and carbs and also helps to control high blood pressure.
  • Jaggery- It cleanses your respiratory tract and also help in digestion.
  • Other- Maple syrup and Coconut sugar.

Bhumi Pednekar Weight Loss Exercise

Diet without exercise is not beneficial. You need to do both in order to stay fit, diet keeps you fit from the inside and a workout helps to strengthen your body, increases your metabolism and keeps you energetic.

Bhumi Pednekar Workout Routine

  • She used to alternate between weights and cardio at the gym. Doing cardio three days a week helps to burn calories and shed weight.
  • Weight training helps to improve muscle mass, tone your body and improve muscle strength.
  • She used to do simple things like taking stairs, instead of lifting. Walking for a shorter distance. Keep getting up every 30 minutes.

Some other fitness hacks are

  • Do 20 squats every time you get up for the loo.
  • Get up and dance to your favorite song every day.
  • Do 20 spot jumps, 30 mins. Before every meal.

  • Set an achievable target.
  • Do not starve yourself.
  • Search for a good alternative for sugar.
  • Always be happy.
  • Do not stress yourself.
  • Include ghee in your diet.
