Oklahoma City, the capital city of Oklahoma offers everything you’d expect from a modern metropolis without all the hassle of a big city. Known as the “Horse Show Capital of the World”, Oklahoma City is a must-see travel destination. Known for its cowboy culture and rugged Western past, the modern-day Oklahoma City keeps true to its roots. While visiting Oklahoma City there are many great local attractions to check out. The city offers a little bit of everything for everyone.

1. Oklahoma City Zoo and Botanical Garden:

Located in Oklahoma City’s Adventure District, the zoo covers 119 acres and is home to more than 1,900 animal species including elephants, tigers, bears, and giant tortoises.

2. Frontier City Amusement Park:

A western themed amusement park favorite that has been in the area since the late 1950s. The park offers everything from Old west reenactments to thrilling wooden rollercoaster rides. Lose your mind on the Brain Drain, a seven-story looping rollercoaster. If you prefer a family friendly ride, let your feet dangle as you fly over the park on the Steel Lasso, Oklahoma’s only suspended family roller coaster. Take a break from the rides and check out the Wild-West Gunfighter Stunt Show. Join the rowdy cast of gunfighters as they re-enact an old west duel with explosions, shootouts and high falls.

3. Myriad Botanical Gardens and Crystal Bridge:

Myriad Botanical Gardens is a 17-acre botanical garden and interactive urban park. The garden is home to multiple levels of densely landscaped areas surrounded by a sunken lake. The Crystal Bridge Conservatory is an expansive cylinder shaped greenhouse that houses over 750 plant varieties of tropical and desert plants. Within the space, there is a cascading waterfall and a sky bridge with stunning views of a tropical forest.

4. Bricktown:

The former warehouse district is now the go-to spot for entertainment in Oklahoma City. Bricktown has everything from restaurants, to a nightlife scene and other entertainment options. Visitors can take a 40-minute cruise along the Bricktown Canal and learn about the unique history and culture of the area.

Catch an Oklahoma City Dodgers game at the Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark. Or head to Michael Murphy’s for their infamous rock-and-roll dueling piano’s that is the part concert and part comedy roast.

5. Dining Out in Oklahoma City

While Oklahoma City is known for its barbecue, the city also offers restaurants to accommodate any type of dining preference. The city offers everything from classic American food to southern dishes.  

6. Toby Keith’s I Love This Bar & Grill:

From oversized artwork to redneck loveseats (pickup truck tailgates), there is nothing fancy here. The classic American food restaurant has murals on the walls, neon signs, and an outdoor patio. The restaurant offers down-home favorites like Slow-Smoked Prime Rib, Calf Friends (a cowboy classic) and Buttermilk Pie topped with their house-made whipped cream for dessert.

7. Bricktown Brewery:

A family-friendly establishment offering great food and locally brewed craft beers. Enjoy some of the restaurant’s favorites like their Friend Chicken Salad and The Bricktown Burger.

8. Charleston’s:

A casual and upbeat restaurant that features a menu of traditional American classics prepared from scratch every day. The restaurant is known for its re-imagined southern classics like fried chicken and waffles. While you are here, make sure to check out the restaurant’s collection of sports paraphernalia and historical mementos.

9. Deep Deuce Grill:

This all American Bar and Grill is located in the heart of Downtown Oklahoma City. The lively sports bar is a great place to catch the big game while digging into a plate of mac and cheese or shrimp tacos.

10. The Right Hotel in Oklahoma City
