Cycling is a good alternative to the means of transportation that have already become conventional for city dwellers. Who needs cars with traffic jams and public transport with dozens of people during the rush time when you can enjoy the fresh air and work out at the same time?

Cycling trends 2020 proves that the activity is going to see a major increase in demand. If you don’t have your own bike, you can still follow the trend by using bike rental services. Sometimes, it’s even more convenient: you don’t need to think about where to store your bicycle. So, let’s find out what is behind the cycling culture in 2020.

COVID-19 Is a Trendsetter

One of the major reasons why more and more people learn about bicycle industry trends today is COVID-19. At first glance, this doesn’t make any particular sense. How does the global pandemic stimulate the development of a 2020 bicycle nation? Why do people buy more and more bicycles in North America?

The thing is that cycling is actually much healthier rather than other means of transportation, public transport in particular. You are not crowded with lots of people. Even if you don’t manage to maintain a six-feet distance, you are still outside. It means that the concentration of bacteria is much less than in closed space.

Since the COVID-19 doesn’t go anywhere, it means that we are going to see many more bicycle industry trends, except for sustainable transport in urban areas. Probably, the next bike trend is going to be massive long-distance traveling. We will plan tours around the country that will extend for several days or even a week.

What about Technologies?

Technologies are rapidly approaching our lives. We don’t talk about automation and smart houses. Here, we mean wearables that are becoming an indispensable part of our bodies. Smartwatches and fitness trackers, in particular, are becoming one of the hottest cycling trends today.

Their ultimate advantage is connectivity with many fitness and health apps. They allow us to adjust the training to personal needs. Besides this, the wristband wearable offers many sensors that track the body vitals, a wide selection of downloadable maps, and even a built-in GPS. Some of them provide an opportunity to listen to songs and pay for purchases.

Technological development never stops. The new bicycle technology 2020 is smart glasses. They are pretty similar to smartwatches. The only difference is that you don’t put them on your wrist, and they don’t offer contactless payment.

So, what do smart glasses offer? Basically everything you may need on the ride. They have GPS and voice navigation, music playlists, performance, and fitness tracking. Besides this, you can communicate with other cyclists and accept phone calls. Some models even allow taking photos and videos that you can later share on social media.

However, smart glasses are not the limit. Today, thanks to Levi’s and Google, cyclists can enjoy almost all the same features by wearing a smart jacket. Yes, you’ve read correctly: the era of smart clothes has come. You can cycle in a jacket and get the directions or receive messages by tapping or swiping on your left sleeve. The jacket can be connected to an app; therefore, it will synchronize with your smartphone.

All in all, there are many devices that make cycling even more convenient. Smart helmets and smart gloves are also a reality, even though they aren’t on the list. Thus, we are sure that this is going to trigger more and more people joining the cycling nation.

What Awaits Cyclists in the Future?

Cycling today is not the same as it used to be even a decade ago. With the rise of technologies, the industry has transformed significantly. Mentioned-above technologies are not all that affected the development of cycling.

E-bikes are hard to overestimate when we talk about the industry. To put it shortly, they have segmented a niche out of the cycling sphere. And this niche is rapidly developing. In the previous year, a four-series European race took place.

Not mentioning this, it’s vital to pay attention to another important aspect. Considering the fact that e-bikes are similar to cars in terms of speed, but their maintenance is definitely much cheaper, leads us to a logical conclusion: people may start to abandon cars in favor of e-bikes.  Indeed, this is a real possibility. Especially those who live in flats may like such an alternative more as they won’t need to look for a parking lot, which is a frequent problem.

All these advances are leading us to the fact that cycling is going to prosper. Therefore, you should pay more attention to the industry, regardless if you are interested in urban or mountain bike trends 2020. Please, share with us, have you started to cycle more in 2020?
