   Sushma Swaraj  (14 February 1952- 6th August 2019)

The Iron Lady of India, Sushma Swaraj took her last breath yesterday in AIIMS. She passed away due to cardiac arrest. This 67-year-old leader was truly an inspiration and also the epitome of Women Empowerment. . She was the most prominent women of BJP.

Born in Ambala Cantt, Haryana to Hardev Sharma and Shrimati Laxmi Devi. Sushma Swaraj earned a bachelor’s degree in Sanskrit and Political Science. She studied law at Panjab University, Chandigarh. In 1973, she started her practice as an advocate in the Supreme court of India. At the age of 27, she became State President of Janata Party in 1979 in Haryana.

In 1990, she was elected as the member of Rajya Sabha. And in 1996, she got elected to the 11th Lok Sabha from South Delhi constituency.

She was Minister of Health, Family Welfare, and Parliamentary Affairs from January 2003 until May 2004. Later, she had served as the Indian Minister of External Affairs under Prime Minister Narendra Modi from May 2014 to May 2019. She played a very important role as the External Affairs Minister. She helped around 90,000 Indians.

  • She brought back a 23-year-old hearing and speech-impaired Indian girl named Gita, from Pakistan.
  • She rescued 5,000 Indians stuck in the UN.
  • She rescued 150 Indians from Sudan.
  • She also evacuated Spanish citizens from Nepal during the earthquake in 2015. (Because of which, she got the most prestigious Grand Cross of Order of Civil Merit, on 19th Feb.2019)

 

She was always ready to help Indians facing passport or visa problem. She became the most approachable minister for the Indians-

  • Passport Issue? Just tweet to her directly.
  • Visa Issue? Just one tweet to her and she will be there.
  • Stranded in a foreign country? Tweet to Sushma Swaraj directly.

It is very difficult to express in words what she meant to common Indians. She was a belief, a trust, a reliance for her. That no matter where you are stuck, she will come and rescue you.

She once said: “ Even if you are stuck on Mars, Indian Embassy there will help you”. And if also this would be the case, they would have helped. She has over 13 million followers on twitter.

She was the women of many firsts-

  • First Woman Chief Minister of Delhi.
  • First Woman CM from BJP
  • First woman spokesperson of a national  party
  • First Full-time woman Foreign Minister
  • First woman cabinet minister of BJP


Her some of the Important works are-

  • As a Health Minister, she opened 6 A.I.M.S
  • She started the Sansad sessions Live.
  • She made the Passport scheme.
  • She announced Bollywood as Industry.

 

She was the Mother Teresa of Twitter and the youths really admired her. Her last tweet was-

 

Her demise is the loss for every Indian. She was a very vocal leader, who had always put country before anyone. She was one of her kind and inspiration to everyone.
