What are the biggest shopping mistakes to avoid?

Before you head off on your family’s summer holiday, you’ll most likely be doing some shopping for you and the kids to make sure you’re prepared.

From checking everyone’s shoes still fit, to keeping everyone happy on the plane, we’ve put together some top biggest shopping mistakes tips on how to make sure you shop smart before heading off to the sand and sun.

1. Buy Spares

Particularly with small children, it’s easy to think that once you’ve got everything you’re ready to go. However, it’s not always quite so simple. New shoes – or even old shoes, if you’re walking a long way – can rub and blister, which can put a very painful dampener on your trip.

You need to consider spillages on clothing, breakages, loss – and whether you’ll be able to buy backups in a pinch where you’re staying. Our tip is to make sure you have double of all your most important items. We’re talking sunglasses, shoes, shirts, and phone chargers!

2. Entertainment

Keep your kids happy on those long journeys. Most short-haul flights don’t have entertainment systems, so it’s important to make sure you have a few tricks up your sleeves to stop boredom turning into tantrums.

When you’re shopping, grab some coloring books and pens, books for reading and even some cards. Anything to keep the little ones occupied and happy, so you can relax. After all, it’s your holiday too!

3. Get the right insurance

One of the most important things to shop for before you leave is the one you hope you’ll never have to use!

Travel insurance is a must for any traveler, regards of destination. You can use a comparison site to make sure you get a great price, but it’s all too common for travelers to choose the cheapest option only to regret it later.

Have a good think about what you’ll be doing on holiday, and what might be involved. If you’re thinking of doing watersports, make sure you have a level of cover that takes this into account.

The same goes for winter sports like skiing or snowboarding.

4. Drinks and snacks

When you’re responsible adult traveling with a family, it’s down to you to keep those family members happy – and no one is happy when they’re hungry.

When you do your prep shop, grab some easy to eat travel snacks like cereal bars, raisins and small bags of sweets.

Try to have a variety of sweet and savory so you can satisfy any craving and keep those little tummies from rumbling!

5. Don’t forget the 100ml limit

When you pack your drinks and snacks, remember there may be restrictions on what you can take with you! If you’re off on a summer holiday abroad then make sure to follow a dedicated packing guide.

Remember, airport security will not let you through with any liquids of over 100ml in your hand luggage, so buy any drinks and cosmetics in departures, after security – not when you so your big prep shop!
