6 Cheaper Ways to Look After Your Health

Looking after your health in these turbulent times is critical. For women, we’re often the person in the household who everyone else relies on, and when women get sick, it can have a real knock-on effect for everyone else! That’s not to say that taking care of your health is easy though. For many people, looking after their health is a lifelong challenge that involves a delicate balance between diet, lifestyle, exercise, and mental wellness.

A Holistic Process

When it comes to looking after your health and your purse, there are a few things you can do to ease the financial burden. Gyms and special diets are costly, but here are six ways you can get the most out of your health ambitions and look after yourself without having to invest thousands of dollars into things that aren’t guaranteed to make you as healthy as you’d expect!

Take Your Vitamins

Getting your vitamins in is never a bad idea, and picking specific women’s vitamins is a good way to ensure you’re getting your recommended daily amount of all of the major vitamins and minerals, plus those extra supplements that can help ladies specifically. Evening primrose, for example, is an excellent supplement for the skin, hair, and nails to keep them in great condition.

Plan in Your Self-Care Time

Self-care is a big part of mental health, and mental health is one of the most important factors in keeping your physical health in good condition, too. What’s counted as self-care will look different from woman to woman. Some women will take pleasure in a nice long soak in the bath without interruptions, others will need a full-on spa day with a massage and a facial thrown in for good measure!

It doesn’t much matter what you class as self-care, but what matters is that you plan your routine in and leave time for it. Self-care will help you to stay on top of yourself and keep your mind and health in check.

Get Therapy

Anyone who has ever had therapy will agree that everyone should have therapy! Therapy is a great way to talk through your past troubles, tackle your demons, and make a realistic and positive plan for your future. Your therapist is a trusted outsider with whom you can build a trusting relationship and work through things at your own pace.

Getting therapy is a good idea at any age, but the quicker you can deal with your past and sort your life out, the quicker you can make a plan for your life and begin living it in the best way possible.

Therapy is an investment in you, and also in your family.

Practice Good Sleep Hygiene

Sleep hygiene is a strange term, but it describes the way in which you sleep, and the effort you are putting into getting the best sleep possible. In general, your bedroom should be one of the coolest places in your home (but not so cold that you can’t sleep!), you should invest in black-out curtains and if you can remove all technology from your room you’ll feel the benefits.

Watching TV or playing on your smartphone before bed might seem like a good idea at first, but it will play havoc with your sleep quality, and if you can spend an hour before bed without your tech, you’ll see and feel the benefits of more restful sleep.

Learn to Meditate

There are lots of cultures across the world that espouse the benefits of meditation for health, and in the West, we’re really opening up to the idea of meditation being a very valid form of treatment. Meditating daily gives you the chance to stop and enjoy the quiet and solitude, there’s no right or wrong way to meditate, and you can do it sitting down, laying down, or even on your favourite comfortable chair!

Take the time every day – meditation is free and it’s one of the most relaxing things you can do to help settle your mind and your body. Just 20 minutes a day will make all the difference and once you start you’ll find yourself enjoying every second of it.

Declutter Your Home

“A place for everything and everything in its place” – it’s one of the most famous phrases in the professional decluttering world, and the theory behind it is a sound one as when things are in order and where they should be you will feel calmer and happier.

Being tidy and spending time decluttering isn’t just for those who have a serious bout of OCD. Studies have shown that having a good clear out is one of the best ways to refresh and start a new day and to get a handle on your life ready to face any challenges that lie ahead.
