Do Your Eyes Look Exhausted Even Though You’re Getting Enough Sleep? Read This

Everyone has days where they looked better than the day before, but there are times when your eyes give you away. They may be red or puffy, yet you got enough sleep. There are many reasons why someone’s eyes can be in a different state than the rest of their body, causing people you meet to think you’ve been awake for days.

For more information regarding puffy under-eye bags, read here for tips. Read below for more information about different eye issues and how they can easily be fixed.

Causes of Undereye Bags

There are a number of different reasons why someone’s under eyes become irritated and puffy, or you have “bags” and dark circles under your eyes.

Here are a few reasons:

  •         Heredity
  •         Aging
  •         Sun exposure
  •         Stress
  •         Illness
  •         Allergies
  •         Acne
  •         Rosacea
  •         Psoriasis

Some of these things cannot be helped no matter how much you try. There are anti-aging creams and lotions as well as medications for some of the issues like allergies, acne, psoriasis, and rosacea, but there is no cure, just help to combat the effects and make you feel better.

Retinol (Retin-A)

One of the best ways to combat several of these issues at the same time is to add Retinol cream to your daily routine. Retinol contains a rather large amount of vitamins A, which improves collagen.

Vitamin A in retinol can help to erase dark spots on the skin. The secret to this drug is that it turns over cells faster and creates a smooth and spot-free surface of the skin.

These spots cause a person to look older, as well as losing their self-confidence. Using Retin-A on a daily basis can give a person back their youthful look.

Remain Hydrated

This may be the easiest way to rid your under-eye puffiness and dark circles. When you drink enough water, you stay hydrated. A properly hydrated person will have a full and smoother face than someone who is dehydrated. If plain water is not that satisfying, there are tons of different flavored waters on the market now that will satisfy your thirst as well as keep your face plump and hydrated.

Useful Dietary Changes

Besides adding more water to your daily diet, you could eat more foods that are high in iron and collagen. These two foods are both helpful to the blood cells throughout the body as well as those in the eyes and eyelids.

Iron-rich foods, including peas, beans, seafood, kale, and spinach and red meat. Iron-fortified pasta, bread, and cereals are another type of food that is helpful to the delicate skin around the eyes.

Collagen-rich foods such as strawberries, red peppers, broccoli, oranges, kale, and Brussel sprouts are a good source of food that helps combat puffiness and dark circles under the eyes.

Avoid Sun Exposure

When you are in the sun for too long, you risk not only skin damage, you will deplete your natural hydration and cause puffiness under your eyes. If you must be out in the sun, wear as much protection as you can.

Start by wearing a wide-brimmed hat. This will protect your eyes and face from the sun’s harmful rays. Even with a hat, apply sunscreen of a high SPF several times during your outing. Wear sunscreen every day of the year, even when there is no actual sunshine. The sun’s rays are able to do damage through thick clouds.

Avoid tanning beds as they are dangerous for a number of reasons and will cause puffiness under the eyes.

Opt for Lightening Products

Look for and purchase products that contain hydroquinone, an ingredient that blocks the production of melanin in the skin. Using this type of product, especially under the eyes, will reduce the appearance of dark circles.

If you are going to use a product containing hydroquinone, you will need to avoid sun exposure altogether. When you are using this skin lightening product, the sun will reverse the effects and cause your skin to darken in large patches under where the product has been placed.

Microneedling

This is a procedure done by a certified dermatologist and can help combat under-eye issues such as bags, dark spots, and puffiness. The procedure is also known as a therapy that uses collagen to reduce wrinkles, fine lines and pigmentation issues like dark spots, and circles.

This type of procedure is not a quick fix for bags and dark circles under the eyes as it takes place over several visits over six months or so. The results are gradual, yet they are lasting.

Sleeping Issues

Even if you get 8 or more hours of sleep a night, you can still wake up with dark circles and bags under your eyes. One way to take advantage of a good night’s sleep is to elevate your head while you sleep.

Invest in a wedge shaped pillow that gently lifts your upper body off the bed. You can get used to sleeping this way in a matter of a few nights; however, the results are going to be long-lasting.

Another option is to elevate the entire front end of your bed with bricks under the posts. This will be less of an incline and could help you sleep easier than the wedge pillow. You could try this method first before investing money in a new pillow.

Another benefit of sleeping in an elevated position is to help your sinuses to drain. You will experience fewer sinus issues as well and relieve swelling in your face. Sleeping in this position could also help with back pain and indigestion.

Taking care of your overall health will help to keep dark circles, bags, and puffiness away from your delicate under-eye area. Be sure to take off all makeup, including eye makeup before going to bed and use a mild cleanser whenever you can.

Getting plenty of sleep is ideal, but not always possible in today’s busy world. You can’t always replace a good night’s sleep with a day spent eating the right foods, but it will not hurt.
