Pre-Holi Skin and Hair Care Tips

1. Rubbing Ice Cubes on you Face-

Ice cubes are very effective for skincare. A day before you play Holi, rub ice cubes on your face this will help to minimize the skin pores. Rubbing an ice cube on a clear face will ensure that the colors do not penetrate inside your skin.

2. Do not forget Sunscreen-

Sunscreen is very important, as we mostly play Holi in sun. Sun tends to take away the moisture from our skin and make our skin tanned. Therefore, it is a good option to apply sunscreen before you head on to play the colors.

3. Oiling is must-

Whenever we hear oiling, we only think of hair. Well, you can also apply oil on your hands, face and around eyes. Oil helps to make your skin soft and smooth and keeps the color off you skin. Pamper your skin and hair with this combination of oil-

1 tbsp. of organic coconut oil

1 tbsp. of castor oil

1 tbsp. of almond oil

Mix all the oil together and apply it on your hand, face and hair. The thick layer of oil creates a barrier between color and your skin.

4. Do not forget your nails-

We always forget to cover our nails until the next day we see them all in random color. And the irony is we use our hands the most while celebrating this festival. So, this time do not forget your nails, instead, apply a lot of petroleum jelly on them before you go out to play. You can also try applying transparent nail paint to your nails.

5. Vaseline is very effective-

Well, petroleum jelly is not only used during the winter season, it also helps to form a protective layer on your lips and protect it from damage. So, apply petroleum jelly on your lips instead of lipstick. This way your lips will stay hydrated and protected from harmful chemicals.

6. Chose right clothing-

Well, we all love to wear good not new clothes on holi, but this time try something different by trying to cover your hands and legs as much as possible. Covering your maximum body with cloth will help the colors to stay away.

7. Do not shampoo a day before-

Shampooing your hair, a day before, opens up the hair cuticles and this will lead the colors to go into your scalp and harm it. Instead, oil your hair a day before to protect your hair from harmful colors.

8. Moisturise your skin-

Use a generous amount of Moisturizer on your arms and legs before holi. Make sure you apply moisturizer behind ears also, as we usually tend to neglect this area. Moisturizer will form a protective layer on your skin and will protect it from harmful colors.

9. Do not leave Hair Open-

You can try putting on a hairstyle in which your hair is tied up like a bun or in a fishtail pony. This way your hair won’t be open and will have minimum contact with colors.

Post-Holi Skin and Hair Care Tips

1. Use foaming face wash-

Foaming face wash is the best way to wash your face and make sure that your skin does not dry. Apply foaming face wash on your face and massage for 30 seconds, then wash off your face.

2. Apply coconut oil-

Applying coconut oil post-Holi is one of the best ways to take care of your skin and hair. Oil helps to moisturize your skin and take off the colour soon. So, after you are done playing with colours and bathing, apply oil on your skin and hair to keep them moisturized and nourished.

3. Go natural-

You can try using homemade face masks and hair masks to get back your original hair and skin texture. DIY masks are best, they are organic and make skin nourished. They also help to restore the natural balance of the skin.

You can try using the following hair and skin masks-

Hair Mask

  • Soak 2 tbsp. of Fenugreek in water overnight
  • Grind it in the morning, to make a paste
  • Apply the paste on your hair strands and scalp
  • Let it stay for 30 minutes
  • Wash it off with lukewarm water.

Skin Mask

  • Take 2 tsp. of Gram flour
  • Add a pinch of Turmeric in it
  • ½ tsp. of Milk cream or Malai
  • Add 3 tbsp. of Milk
  • Make a paste with the help of Rose water.
  • Apply it on your face and let it semi-dry
  • Later, massage it in circular motion and wash it off with normal water.

4. Stay away from soap-

Most soaps and face washes are made up of chemicals these days. They can rip out the natural oil from the face and also cause irritation. Instead, you can opt for organic skin cleansing product and do not scrub harshly.

5. Don’t stay in wet clothes for long-

If possible, try to dry yourself as soon as you are done with playing holi. Staying in wet clothes for too long can cause rashes on your skin. Also, wet clothes help the colour to seep in the skin easily and it would be tough to remove the colours.

So, either play with dry colours or do not stay in wet clothes for too long.

6. Use mild shampoo and conditioner-

Post-holi wash your hair with mild shampoo and conditioner enriched with milk protein or high moisturizing effect. Also, do not scratch off your scalp with fingernails.

7. Use moisturizer-

After playing Holi, all your skin needs is a moisturizer. The harsh Holi colors tend to take away the moisture from your skin making it dry. So, use a mild moisturizer post holi and make sure your skin is well hydrated and nourished.

8. Keep yourself Hydrated-

Drinking an ample amount of water is good for your skin and hair. It helps to flush out the toxins from the body and keep it clean and clear. Therefore, in your post, Holi skincare routine, do not forget to drink lots of water and keep yourself hydrated.
